The History of Lifeday

The Birth of Lifeday

Some of you may be wondering where the idea for Lifeday came from.

The "seed of life" was planted back in 1998 following a particularly death-filled year. Four of my friends died in one year. Yes, four. As if this fact wasn't upsetting enough, I noticed another disturbing fact.

While at the wakes and funerals, I stood around with many old friends celebrating the lives of the deceased. Yet I hadn't seen many of these people in years. I wondered why? Why do we wait until someone dies to celebrate their life? Why don't we let people know how much they mean to us now? Why do we wait until it's too late? So I decided to do something about it.

I decided to throw a BIG ASS PARTY, and call it… Lifeday.

Shawn Davis
co-founder of Lifeday has since stepped in and volunteered to hold it at his country house in rural upstate New York. This location is the perfect adult playground for a bunch of big kids to play and party for an entire weekend.

Ever since that first Lifeday party in 1999, Lifeday has turned into an annual event eagerly anticipated and attended by people of all backgrounds and regions.

Eleven years later, Lifeday has grown into an annual summer celebration that Shawn and I, as well as many others, look forward to each year. Thanks to the generosity and help of friends and family, Lifeday grows bigger and better each year and will continue to do so as long as Shawn and I are still around, God willing. Let me take this opportunity to thank friends and family for making Lifeday a success. I look forward to celebrating our life and friendship at Lifeday 2010.

Peace.
